Favorite albums of 2023

Dive into the sonic landscapes of 2023 with our curated list of favorite albums. From genre-defying masterpieces to soul-stirring compositions, this collection spans the musical spectrum. Whether you’re a seasoned music enthusiast or just beginning your exploration, these albums promise a memorable and enriching listening experience in 2023.

6. Sapta Sagaradaache Ello – Side A

The year-end panic led me to include this album in my list. I’ve had it on repeat for the last two days, and I’m genuinely amazed by the versatile and poignant tracks. I’m saving Side B for 2024, and I’m confident it will become another addiction for me

Coincidentally, I came across the Tamil version of this album and instantly fell in love with it. Hesham’s “Hridayam” was the catalyst for starting a music blog and this account (previously dedicated solely to music). This album is also a gem, featuring enchanting melodies that are bound to leave a lasting impression.

4. Ponniyin Selvan 2

This album heralds classical excellence with the grandiose song “Veera Raja Veera.” The heart-melting renditions of both versions of “Chinnanjiru Nilave” add to its charm, and Shaktishree’s breezy rendition of “Aga Naga” is delightful. Additionally, the brilliance extends to the three short songs, making it a well-rounded musical experience.

3. Maamannan

A.R. Rahman delivers a stunning soundtrack! Blessing us with a nostalgic, soul-stirring, 7+ minute song like “Nenjame Nenjame” in 2023 is truly remarkable. Alongside, there’s a reggae number, three fantastic bangers, and two heartrending songs. It’s a complete package.

2. Viduthalai Part 1

Featuring a haunting duet, a soulful duet, and a devotional song, this album showcases splendid compositions. Ilaiyaraaja reaffirms his musical prowess in this enchanting soundtrack, leaving a desire to explore more of his albums in 2024.

1. Modern Love

Ilaiyaraaja takes ownership of the album, complemented by Yuvan’s two enchanting melodies, GVP’s playful female-POV love song, and Sean Roldan’s lively gaana and heartwarming love track. The instrumentals by Ilaiyaraaja transport you to another realm. A truly wholesome album!
